Cleansing the Cellular Energy Body

Cleansing the Cellular Energy Body

What does it mean to cleanse the cellular energy body?

In energy-healing traditions, the energy body is understood as the subtle field within and around the physical body. It is believed to reflect our vitality, emotions, experiences and connection with ourselves.

I use the phrase “cellular energy body” to describe the places where an experience feels as though it has been held deeply—not only as a conscious memory, but also through sensations, protective reactions and patterns within the body.

This is a spiritual and experiential understanding rather than a medical diagnosis. For me, Reiki has been one way of bringing gentle attention, compassion and restorative energy to the places within myself that have felt guarded or disconnected.

When the Body Remembers

Before surviving a sexual assault (in 2005), I experienced my intuition and clairvoyance as especially clear and open. Afterward, those abilities sometimes felt clouded by fear and self-protection.

The trauma also affected how I responded to touch around my head and shoulders. Even safe, ordinary contact could cause me to pull away or become intensely protective. My body associated that area with something frightening that had happened to me.

I did not always have words for the reaction, but my body communicated a clear boundary: this area did not feel safe.

A trauma response is not a personal failure. Sometimes the body protects us long after a threatening experience has ended. Healing may involve slowly building a renewed sense of safety, choice and connection—always at the pace that feels appropriate.

Reiki Around the Head and Crown Chakra

One morning, I became especially aware that my head needed the same compassionate attention I had been offering to other areas of my body. I rested my hands gently around my head and practiced self-Reiki for an extended period.

At first, the area felt guarded. I imagined that I was meeting a protective layer that had developed for a reason. Instead of trying to push through it, I remained present and allowed the Reiki practice to unfold gradually.

Over time, I experienced greater softness and receptivity. What initially felt armored began to feel calmer and more open. I experienced an extraordinary sense of relief.

In chakra traditions, the crown chakra is associated with spiritual connection, awareness and a relationship with something greater than ourselves. During this practice, focusing on the area around my head helped me feel clearer, lighter and more connected with my spirit.

Allowing Emotional Release

When I first began practicing Reiki many years ago (around 1999), I sometimes experienced tears while giving myself healing. They did not always feel connected to a particular story or conscious sadness. They felt like a natural release that occurred when I became quiet, present and receptive.

That happened again during this experience.

Rather than interpreting the tears as physical toxins leaving my body, I now understand them as part of my personal emotional and energetic response. They signaled that something within me was softening and that I could allow myself to feel.

Each person responds to Reiki differently. Some people experience warmth, relaxation, emotion, imagery or subtle sensations. Others may simply feel rested. There is no particular response that someone must have for a session to be meaningful.

Healing Through Safety and Choice

This experience reminded me that healing cannot be forced. A guarded place within the body may need patience, compassion and permission before it begins to feel safe again.

Reiki did not change what happened to me. It gave me a spiritual practice through which I could offer loving attention to a part of myself that had been carrying fear. It helped me experience my body as my own again.

That distinction is important in the work I offer others. Energy healing should never override someone’s boundaries or ask them to tolerate unwanted touch. A Reiki session can be offered with light touch, hands positioned above the body or a combination chosen by the client. Consent can be changed or withdrawn at any time.

Returning to Your Own Energy

Reconnecting with yourself may happen gradually. It might begin by noticing your breath, resting your hands somewhere that feels safe or becoming aware of an area of your body that is asking for kindness.

For me, this self-Reiki experience brought clarity, gratitude and a renewed appreciation for being alive. I felt as though I could breathe more freely and reconnect with an essential part of myself.

That is what cleansing the cellular energy body means to me: listening to what has been held within, honoring the body’s protective wisdom and creating space for greater peace, vitality and spiritual connection.
